About West Ealing BID
What is a BID?
According to their website, A BID is an arrangement whereby businesses work together, agree what additional improvements they want to make to their local area, how they are going to manage and deliver those improvements and what it will cost them. These details form a business plan, which is voted on by all those who would have to pay a BID levy
Why are local businesses concerned?
In West Ealing BID were awarded a term of 5 years from 2014 to 2019. During this time, its become clear that what they have promised they have not delivered. Further to this, despite repeated requests for information on any financial aspects, there is no available data to exactly how the money is being spent. Now that term is up for renewal, do we need another five years of smokes and mirrors?
It’s only a small amount of money. Why is it important to vote NO?
A BID is a special taxing district controlled by a board with a required majority of property owners.
BIDs prioritize the interests of the largest property owners over the well-being of the local residents and small businesses.
BIDs have been documented to negatively impact marginalized communities.
The In West Ealing BID are able to tax every property in the district and spend those funds in the interests of the biggest property owners, with little oversight or recourse from the community.
